Today marks the first day of my new painting-a-day project! I thought I’d share a few of my thoughts and motivations for doing a project like this.
IT WILL CHANGE ME
I’ve read and listened to many creatives who have come away from a sustained daily practice like this saying that it was an amazing time of exploration and growth. I have no idea what my end result will be, but I know that in the end I’ll have grown because of it.
Ok, I’ve always secretly longed to be that painter who lays down thick, buttery strokes, and whose images appear loose and spontaneous. These daily paintings are my playground for experimenting with new types of acrylic paints, mediums, and styles of strokes. Impasto, here I come!
Recently, I’ve been feeling very tight and restricted by my painting style. I want my painting practice to feel refreshing and freeing again, so it’s my goal to have fun, paint loosely, and embrace - not battle - imperfection in my paintings.
My few rules for this project:
- Complete one painting every weekday
- Weekends off
- My goal is 30+ paintings, but I’m flexible about the number
- Each painting will go up for sale in my shop the day after its completion
